Tulip Joshi was born in Mumbai to a Gujarati Indian father and an Armenian mother who was born in Lebanon and moved to India. She was brought up in Mumbai where she attended the Jamnabai Narsee School, and later Mithibai College from where she graduated majoring food science and chemistry. She excelled in sports, competing in athletics at the National level. She has two sisters, Selphi and Monalisa. Her sister Monalisa is married to Bollywood actor Rajat Bedi. She has a nephew, Vivann, and niece, Vera.
She is an Ex-Miss India finalist and has even acted in some Bollywood flicks. Her films include – Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai of the famous Yash Chopra banner, and opposite Shahid Kapur in Dil Maange More , and she also has some Telugu as well as Punjabi films to her name. Those Include Telugu movie “Villain” and “Jag Jeondeyan De Mele” with famous Punjabi singer and actor, Harbhajan Mann.

Salwar kameez (shalwar kameez) is the dress worn by both women and men in northern South Asia and Central Asia. It is a unisex dress similar in manner to shirt and pants worn by both women and men in the west. Traditionally, it has been worn in Afghanistan and Punjab (Pakistan and Northern India). From the last century, women in southern India have also adopted this dress complementing the sari, the traditional dress of India. Shalwar or Salwar (as pronounced in India) are loose pajama-like trousers. The legs are wide at the top, and narrow at the ankle. The kamees is a long shirt or tunic. The side seams (known as the chaak), left open below the waist-line, give the wearer greater freedom of movement.
